Smog Check

We are a State of California licensed Smog Check station on McCormick Street. We do the inspection and, if something fails, the repair — so you are not driving the car somewhere else and coming back.

Test and repair in one place

California has two kinds of smog station. A Test-Only station can inspect your car but is not allowed to fix it. We are licensed as Test & Repair, so if your car fails we can diagnose it, do the work, and retest it here.

When you need one

• Registration renewal: every two years for most vehicles.
• Buying or selling: a valid certificate is needed when a vehicle four model years or older changes hands.
• Moving to California: a vehicle registered in another state needs one before it can be registered here.

Which vehicles are exempt

• 1975 or earlier: gasoline, hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles.
• Eight model years old or newer: exempt at renewal. For a change of ownership the cutoff is four model years or newer.
• Diesel: 1997 or older, or over 14,000 lbs gross vehicle weight.
• Electric vehicles and motorcycles.

Not sure which applies to your car? Bring the DMV renewal notice — it says whether a Smog Check is required. If there are any special instructions on it, give us a call before you drive over.

What to bring

The vehicle and your DMV renewal notice. That is all. Walk in during opening hours, or call ahead if you would rather have a set time.
